On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, officers from the Auxiliary Police (PA) of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City (CDMX) managed to save the life of a newborn who was experiencing respiratory problems. The baby, 10 months old, was with his mother at the Cuatro Caminos station of Line 2 of the Collective Transport System (STC) Metro when he began to have breathing difficulties.
In an act of bravery, the auxiliary police officers assigned to the security of the station, located in the Alce Blanco neighborhood, Naucalpan, State of Mexico, acted quickly. Applying their first aid knowledge, the officers took the baby in their arms and began the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuver. The child's mother quickly headed to a clinic for a comprehensive medical evaluation of the little one.
The incident was triggered when the 21-year-old woman requested help upon noticing that her son was losing consciousness and beginning to faint during the public transport journey. After moments of distress, the baby regained consciousness and began to cry, which generated great relief in his mother. Finally, the baby was returned to his mother, who deeply thanked the intervention of the police officers.
The actions of the SSC officers highlight their commitment and training in first aid, always ready to provide support in emergency situations that may endanger the safety and well-being of citizens. It is essential to know the key steps to perform CPR on a baby: assess the situation, place the baby on a flat surface, perform chest compressions and rescue breaths, and continue these measures until medical help arrives or the baby regains consciousness.
